About DSL
  About DSL

DSL is the current generation of high speed Internet access technology. A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) delivers high-speed Internet access using existing 2-wire copper telephone lines already installed in hundreds of millions of homes and businesses worldwide.

At the customer premises, a DSL router or modem connects the DSL line to a local-area network (LAN) or an individual computer. Once installed, the DSL router provides the customer site with continuous connection to the Internet.

Over any given link, the distance between the customer site and the number of users assigned to a Central Office determines the maximum DSL speed. Sling Shot! TechnologiesTM offers Symmetrical DSL data services at several different speeds ranging from 192 kbps to 1.5mbps so customers can choose the rate that meets their specific needs.

Here is a chart to show the speed comparison from analog to digital:
TYPE OF DATA FILE LENGTH 28.8 KBPS MODEM ISDN - 128 KBPS DSL - 384 KBPS DSL - 1.5 MBPS
Browsing the Net - 25 web pages with text and graphics 2.5Mb 12 minutes 2 ½ minutes 52 seconds 13 seconds
A 20-second video 8Mb 37 minutes 8 ½ minutes 2 ¾ minutes 43 seconds
Download entire Netscape 4.0 or Internet Explorer 4.0 browser software 25Mb 120 minutes 26 minutes 8 2/3 minutes 2 1/5 minutes
Sling Shot! TechnologiesTM provides a 99% uptime service level guarantee on our SDSL connections so you can spend your time worrying about your business and not your Internet connection.

With DSL, consumers and small businesses can take advantage of having a dedicated, always-on connection to the Internet.

What does this mean to you?

  • No more having to dial-in to get connected,
  • You get 24/7 access!
  • DSL provides broadband speeds of up to 3 Mbps---that's up to 56 times faster than conventional dial-up connections.
  • DSL is about the same cost as having a second phone line and paying an additional $23.95/month for Internet access.
Sling Shot! TechnologiesTM offers ADSL and SDSL and the differences are…
  • Fast Upload Speeds: SDSL has fast upload speeds allowing video streaming, video conferencing, and large file transfer through email. Speeds rival those of T1 at a fraction of the cost. ADSL has slower upload speeds making these functions more difficult.
  • Widely Available: SDSL runs on a dedicated line making it available where other ADSL services are not.
  • Easily Upgradeable: Upgrade SDSL without changing equipment or configurations.
  • Firewall: SDSL offers Firewall Protection. A Firewall is a combination of hardware and software that prevents unauthorized access to a business' network files, protecting them from electronic snooping, hackers, and viruses.
  • Service Level Agreement: Sling Shot! TechnologiesTM SDSL offers a service level agreement guaranteeing that end users' connections will perform at their optimum levels.
